Enjoy the Happy Little Things...

1. Enjoy my pretty Easter nails :)

"Spring Fling" by AVON.... out of my 'vintage' stash (i.e. The summer of eighth grade where I bought almost every polish in the little AVON catalog. Quality stuff, fresh colors, and on sale at $1 apiece, I even knew a good deal back then!!) Years later, a few bottles of this collection were no longer in their liquid form, but just a small dose of acetone brought those bad girls back to life!

More to come this spring and summer from my vintage AVON-- because, unlike many of the wonderful bloggers I follow, I am young, broke and spending way more than I should in every arena of my, um, "budget." Clothes, home goods, groceries, definitely toiletries and cosmetics, traveling, presents AND all the wedding-related spending in my group of 20-something-year-old girlfriends! Ok, sorry I digress.

2. The really sweet text I got from my boyfriend today. Back story first:

Tonight, Chadwick made dinner at home for himself and his roommate. Poor things, they ONLY had two huge prime grade ribeyes, stone crabs, wild rice and asparagus. Chad is quite the chef. Of course, dinner was paired with red wine-- I can't tell you which, because I didn't ask. I didn't ask because I know I'd be jealous. Chad is a certified sommelier, in the midst of completing his Master Sommelier certification, wine distributor and connoisseur indeed. In the past three years, we have truly shared some of the best wines ever. Being in Charlotte with him in Miami Beach not only means less time together, but means less fabulous wine and dining for me!! (Better for my booty, but less tasty on the palette; I had a turkey mozzarella sandwich for dinner.)

Anywho back to the story, as I headed to the gym, we squeezed in a quick car chat. I went to workout, and, 755 miles away, Chad made his five-star dinner. I must have missed the text message while I was *spinning* my little heart out. I actually didn't see it until after the gym and a quick stop at the grocery store (picked up ingredients for my splendid turkey sandwich and tomorrow's green summer smoothie breakfast). Annnnd the cutest little text said:

Dinner and wine is not the same without u! :(

He even made a sad face!! But his text message frown made me smile. Phew! That was a long story for a short text, but that's my style. Gotta give you the background.

3. And last little happy thing for the day: I have now gone to three spin classes at my new gym and I am loving it. I am going to spin 2x a week, and maybe I'll just ride my bike all the way to Coral Gables for Monica's wedding in May!

Halle Berry, Halle Berry! (And Nala.. oh and Gabriel)

OMG OMG OMG... Generally, I'm not that crazy about celebrities, but I love Halle Berry. Tonight, she came into the Miami Beach restaurant that I work at, and she brought her beautiful baby girl and boyfriend!!! I had to try ever so hard to act, well, normal. Their family is lovely, and Halle was very polite and soft-spoken. Her skin is flawless-- no really without so much as a blemish. I'm 90% sure Ms. Berry was not wearing any makeup, and she looked just like she does in the Revlon ads, only better. I swear I am not exaggerating in the least, this woman is prettier in person than on-screen, and quite petite as well. At my measly 5'2", in flats today, she was maybe two inches taller than me. (That makes me smile.)

The paparazzi swarmed the front of the restaurant as she entered, so after dinner we snuck their party upstairs and out through the back. On the way out, Halle and Gabriel were kind enough to pose for a picture in the upstairs of the restaurant and also with my boyfriend the General Mananger/Sommelier!! JEALOUSY much!?! And she kissed him on the cheek-- the cheek I doubt he will wash tonight.

P.S. Nala really liked me... she was giggling with me and she is honestly such a precious little girl.. I'm a sucker for toddlers!

Well that's my Halle Berry story... made my day. Now if Beyonce would just stop by or Julia Roberts or Michelle Obama!

All The Lovey Things...

Today, Chad and I are celebrating our two-year anniversary. We went all over, Key Biscayne (missed Miami Seaquarium), Coconut Grove, a movie in the park at Las Olas, Fort Lauderdale-- E.T.!!! sponsored by my family business--, rode the Las Olas trolley to visit the new W Fort Lauderdale Hotel and ended up back home in Miami Beach at CJ's Crab Shack where the grouper-in-a-bag was splendiferous. It was a lovely day, and has been a great two years... hopefully stress subsides and we spend a third anniversary celebrating in the Hamptons! A girl can wish/plan/....

You N' The Cap'n Make It Happen

So, tonight, Chad and I had a movie night since it's raining all day and night here in Miami Beach. We made mashed potatoes, spring salad with pecans and blue cheese dressing, AND Chad's Cap'n Crunch Chicken!! It's sweet and crunchy and a fun dish to make. Something kids can definitely enjoy (even big kids like Chad and I).

Here's the recipe, from the chef himself:

Pound chicken breast with a mallet
Dust with flour
Douse in beaten eggs
Pour Cap'N Crunch into bowl and crush with muddler/pestle or tool of your choice
Roll battered chicken breasts in Cap'N Crunch
Fry in oil until golden brown and flip; repeat (this should be done on medium-high temperature so that chicken cooks all the way through)
Remove breasts from pan and set on paper towel to absorb grease
Optional: Make a butter sauce with white wine, butter and reduce with your choice of ingredient making it your own!
Voila, good and crunchy fun in your mouth :)
